On Repeat: Winter 2021

I always self-describe my music taste as “sad girl indie pop” because my top listened to playlists are the Sad Bops, Indie Pop + Chill Pop on Spotify. But also, ya girl just loves a lil bop with some sad lyrics or a vibe-y melody to chill to. During quarantine my parents were so sick of hearing my music because they said it was “depressing.” Umm rude. Is it? Probably. Do I care? No. And can you call me out on it? Pls don’t. I don’t know what it is about sad music but it sticks with me the most. I’m definitely more of a lyrics person where if I resonate with the lyrics then the song will quickly become an obsession. And I actually consume music similarly to how I consume TV: binge style. Once I find a song I like, I add it to my “on repeat” playlist on Spotify that I rotate out every 3 months or so. But I’m definitely known for replaying the same few songs over and over again. Lately, it has been “right where you left me” by Taylor Swift, “play this when I’m gone” by Machine Gun Kelly, “All the Fucking Time” by Loote, “Ghost of You” by 5SOS and “drivers license” by Olivia Rodrigo (yes, still). Okay, so I can see where people would get the idea of depressing music… Whatever, feel free to take a listen to what’s been on repeat on my playlist this winter if you want to join the sad girl club!
